Improving the Resilience of District H one neighborhood at a time.

  • The Challenge

Extreme heat and severe weather threaten Houston’s District H due to low tree canopy, aging homes, and weak infrastructure, leading to higher heat, flooding, and damage risks.

Council Member Mario Castillo’s Resilient H initiative is tackling extreme heat and disaster risks head-on with smart, community-driven solutions. As District H and the city face rising temperatures and stronger storms, Resilient H promotes practical strategies, like planting trees, weatherizing homes, and improving infrastructure in order to build a cooler, safer, and more resilient future for all Houstonians.

  • The Framework

Led by Council Member Mario Castillo, the Resilient H initiative utilizes 4 key components to reduce climate risks and boost disaster readiness through:

WHAT WE CAN DO MOVING FORWARD

Tree Planting | Rain Barrels | Climate-smart Design

    ENHANCED GREEN SPACE + PARKS

Insulation | Roofing Upgrades | Energy Programs

    HOME WEATHERIZATION

    Permeable Pavement | Cool Concrete | Storm-proofing

    RESILIENT INFRASTRUCTURE

    Green Building Standards

    Infrastructure Investment | Policy Partnerships
